As someone who has studied nutrition for over 8 years now. I have had the privileged to hear and learn from different health and wellness experts. This also means I have heard and study all the different diets out there. So I am very familiar with all the pros and cons all come with. That is why I am not an advocate of any particular diet. Instead, I recommend taking what is best of each of these diets and incorporate it into your own diet.
It is important to remember that what it’s best for someone it might not be the best for someone else. Therefore I recommend my clients to listen to their own body instead of following someone elses diet. Our bodies know what is best for us and if we learn to really listen to them we will be able to function at our best.
Pros and Cons Paleo Diet
Having said all this, I believe that the Paleo Diet has tons of benefits if it is done correctly. This diet is based on the idea that our bodies work better when we burn fats for energy instead of sugar. Which is why this diet is high in fats, moderate in proteins and very low in carbs. That means no sugar, dairy, grains or legumes. No highly processed cookies or cakes. Think plenty of avocados, fish, meat, and vegetables. You can still have fruits, nuts, and seeds but in very limited amounts.
If you have ever tried this type of diet or know someone who has, you are probably familiar with how restrictive and difficult to follow it can be. The other downside I also see with this diet is that people end up eating too much meat which is also not ideal for your body.
Overall, following a Paleo diet can have plenty of benefits just make sure you are doing it with the supervision of a nutritionist that can help you make sure you are getting all the nutrients you need and not overdoing on meats.
